Myanmar blogger interview

Last week I interviewed "Mayvelous" about her blog and her opinions on blogging. Actually I had been trying to interviewed her since the 1st week of November but didn't have a chance since I was quite busy playing poker(just kidding!). At last, I finally met her on Yahoo last week.

The reason I chose her for interview is that she's the only one Myanmar blogger who owns a domain name and uses a professional blogging software, Wordpress. And she began her blog earlier than I did. So, she has some insight knowledge about blogging. I hope this interview won't make you bored. Just let me know what you think, too.


1.Your name , age and sex

Name: May Hnin Phyu

2.Where are you from?

I'm from very tiny and beautiful island in the south pacific, Fiji

3.Your blog's name?

Me, Myself and Mayvelous- http://www.mayvelous.com

4.Where did that name come from?

Hmm it's kinda like my own name "May" mixed with a few nicks my friends give me. Some friends call me mayves but I hate that. So I mixed with May + marvelous, actually that's my bro's idea. That's how I got Mayvelous. People think that's my real name :P silly isn't it?

5.What powers your blog? (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.)

It's a Wordpress blog. Wordpress 1.5.2 actually with the Connection theme and some code mixed from Connection reloaded.

6.And the reason you chose wordpress is?

I was just testing a few blogging tools and I got 2 choices, either Wordpress or Textpattern. When I look around and check those out, I found Textpattern is kinda hard to install. I mean their site doesn't explain the instructions well enough and I hate searching for info. And Wordpress site gives very easy instructions and displayed in so obvious place and so easy search. Yah that's how I choose to try wordpress.

7.What is your blog about? And why did you choose such a topic?

My blog. It's just a personal blog. No specific topic actually, my topics are varies, about life in fiji, mm stuffs, my work, my projects, codes that I'm interested in etc.
Just a personal site featuring various interests of mine :D

It is nice. People get to know u by reading your blog.

Yah, I think they could get to know me quite a lot from my blog posts. Most of my posts show my ideas, opinions and way of thinking. So, Yah if u are my regular reader, you might even know how I talk, my slangs, my habits and many more of my silly ways :D

7.Do you work?

:D I hate that question but Yes I do work. I work at home. I work at work :D I work quite a lot. (She is a web developer)

8.Did anyone/blog inspired you to blog?

Oh, Yah, quite a few people inspired me to blog. I was introduced the term blogging by one of my work mate. You see, our work involve lots of searching around on net and find out how others doing what and the latest technology. So most of the site we look at are blogs, technical blogs, design blogs, personal blogs lots. So my friend told me to make use of RSS feeds and introduced me to bloglines feed reading. So after about 2, 3 weeks of regular read on my favorite sites, I got really interested in blogging and gave a first try on Blogger. Then later I decided to have my own domain with Wordpress account. So you could say my inspirationals are those designers and developers who are very good and smart with their blogging. I want to be one like them, too. May be in the future at least :P I prefer to do technical blogging than personal. My technical skills are just too newbie so yah still trying :D

9.Do your friends blog too?

A few of my work mates blog but not regularly. My friends are lazy bones :D and we do get busy a lot. So it's hard for us to blog regularly.

10.Your Favourite Music is...

Pop, Hiphop, Slow sweet melodies with great lyrics. I listen plenty and like a lot, too but I don't like those scary black metals or too noisy rocks.

11. Brad Pitt or Orlando Bloom?

:)) Brad Pitt definitely LOL

12.Apple or Windows?

Windows. I love the Apple interface but we don't use it, so I've only tested once. Windows is my daily use.

13.In your most creative words, finish this sentence: "To blog means..."

14.Well, I think there are not many Myanmar bloggers. Do you think its true?

That's rite. I think it's true. But they'll come slowly. We, Burmese are always slow starters. One reason, not enough info flow. Another, they don't like expressing. I mean they are shy. They only like to be readers/viewers. They don't want to be the talker, even they want to discuss in one topic, they think of how other might say on their views. Hmm yah I think most of Burmese are just shy people who don't express their views openly. But I'm sure lots of youngsters are opening up these days and a lot more Myanmar blogs to see in the future.

15. So,your advice to newbie bloggers out there…

Hey, welcome to the blogging world, where ever you are, who ever you are and be free in opening up your thoughts. A great world out there with lots of opportunities, blogging will give you many of your hidden talents. So start blogging and get connected with like minded people around the world.
